The City of Healdsburg is cleaning up a sewage spill in a dry seasonal creek bed and conducting a thorough investigation on the cause of spillage.
City Public Works crews, along with local contractor Miksis Services, are working throughout the weekend to siphon wastewater that spilled into a dry Foss Creek drainage channel near 147 Healdsburg Avenue. No sewage touched any running water as Foss Creek -- a rain-fed stream -- is dry.
The Healdsburg Police, Fire Department and other local fire agencies responded to a call on Thursday night about the spillage, and Public Works crews immediately began to siphon the water from the dry channel. A kinked hose from a temporary sewer bypass system seems to have restricted the sewage flow, which in turn caused the spillage.
In addition to cleaning up the wastewater, the City is conducting an investigation of the storm drain channel. We will provide more information as we learn more about the situation.
