The County of Sonoma has proclaimed a local emergency in response to the storms and possible flooding, authorizing the activation of the County’s Emergency Operations Center.
City staff is continuously monitoring projected levels of the Russian River and Dry Creek (which impact Foss Creek). At this time, maximum projected levels are not anticipated to reach flood stage in Healdsburg. Rain and wind are expected to peak today from 4-10 p.m., with another 4-6 inches of rain expected this weekend. Staff will be monitoring water levels throughout the night.
Out of an abundance of caution, those that live in areas prone to localized flooding should take typical precautions such as parking your vehicle at higher elevation (such as driveway) in the event higher than forecasted rains occur this evening.
Downed trees and power outages could occur; Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) and Healdsburg Electric are ready to respond. ALWAYS assume a fallen power line is live, and NEVER touch or drive over a downed power line, or any object touching a fallen power line!
You can take these steps now to prepare for a potential power outage:
Keep a battery-operated flashlight and radio within easy reach. Ensure those items are always accessible and that your batteries are fresh. Listen for updates on storm conditions and power outages.
Use safer LED candles. Wax candles are not recommended.
Plan for another way to communicate. Don’t depend on a phone that requires electricity to communicate. Keep a standard handset or mobile phone ready as a backup.
Store water-filled plastic containers in your freezer. You can use them as blocks of ice to prevent food from spoiling.
The City of Healdsburg’s sandbag station remains available at the Healdsburg Community Center (1557 Healdsburg Avenue). Sand and empty bags will be provided, however we recommended you bring: a shovel to fill bags, gloves to protect your hands, a helper to assist in filling.
For flooding, downed trees that are not blocking a roadway, or power outages, please call the City’s 24/7/365 Emergency Utility Hotline at (707) 431-7000 or toll free (855) 755-6586.
