Water Conservation Update

Available water rebates

Thank you for your continued efforts to save water during the ongoing drought. As a community, our water consumption was 36% less for the month of August compared to the 2017-2019 average! This is thanks in large part to residents cutting back on outdoor irrigation. We are currently in Stage 2 water restrictions, which allows for three days a week of irrigation (Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday) during the early morning before 7 am and in the late evening after 8 pm. Remember to turn off your irrigation during rain and for two days following as well! Find out more about the current water restrictions and resources available here: bit.ly/CoHWaterFAQ.

Flipping Lids

flyer

Recology is required to audit residents and businesses to assure recyclable products are not contaminated and food scraps are going into the green compost bin. The audits require “flipping lids” on residential carts and inspecting the contents. The most recent audit of 125 residential homes was completed in early August. Of those 125, 15 were not using their green compost bin at all, 13 bins were found to be contaminated and 4 were grossly contaminated. The most common contamination is “soft plastic” such as trash bags and plastic film from packaging in the compost bin or recycling bin. Reminder these types of plastics are trash, no bags (even labeled those labeled “compostable”) are not allowed in your green bin or recycling.

If you have questions about what to do with any waste product, please start with Zero Waste Sonoma at: https://zerowastesonoma.gov.
