Senior Center Shares the Love this Valentine’s Day

Valentines Day Celebration Healdsburg Seniors

The Healdsburg Senior Center partnered with the Friends of the Senior Center to host a special Valentine’s Day drive through event on Thursday, February 10.  Over 80 seniors from our community were greeted with a friendly face and provided a gift bag, succulents in hand-painted pots, and Valentine’s cards created by the participants in the ASES after school program. An additional 24 older adults who were unable to drive to the event were provided with a personal greeting and a home delivery care basket. Special thanks to Friends of the Senior Center for sponsoring this event and their continued support of our community’s seniors. Senior Center staff is gearing up for a busy spring season of activities and events and we encourage you to follow the Healdsburg Senior Center for more opportunities to connect with our older adults in the coming weeks.

Tee Ball Set to Return

Healdsburg T-ball

After a two-year hiatus, Community Services is thrilled to announce the return of Tee Ball this spring. We invite children ages 3-6 to come out to give the sport a try or brush up on their skills prior to the start of the full season by taking part in the Tee Ball Tune-Up clinics, starting March 1.  The full season kicks-off on March 28 and runs through May 18.  Our recreational league will introduce players to the sport and focus on teaching the fundamentals of the game in a fun and supportive environment.  If you are interested in learning more, signing your child up, or becoming a volunteer coach, please follow the links below or give us a call at 707-431-3301. We can’t wait to see our little sluggers back on the field!

Municipal Recycled Water Pipeline

Healdsburg Municipal Recycled Water Pipeline

The City of Healdsburg is pursuing several projects that will help to diversify our water supply and help us through future droughts. One project that generates a lot of questions is the recycled water pipeline expansion. The included infographic shows a snapshot of what we have envisioned.

The Municipal Recycled Water Pipeline will provide recycled water to some City Parks, the golf course, cemetery and some public school athletic facilities. Once complete the project will supply roughly 40 million gallons of water per year or about 6% of the City’s annual water needs.

The expected cost to complete the water pipeline is expected to fall between $10-$15 million. City staff have applied for grants from federal and state resources and are pending approval. The federal match range is from 25-50% of the project cost and the state match ranges between 0-25%. We hope to learn by the end of the year if we have been approved for the grant applications

Pizza Boxes Are Compostable

Pizza Boxes Are Compostable

Now that we all are required to recycle and compost, many people have questions about what goes where.? Cardboard and paper are best in your recycling (Blue) bin, but ONLY IF CLEAN AND DRY.? Dirty, wet, and particularly greasy paper products must be pulled out by hand before heading to a recycling facility.? And if that greasy pizza box gets through, it clogs the machinery creating inefficiency which increases the cost to process recycled paper and eventually increases your garbage rate.

So, please make sure your used pizza box and dirty napkins go into your green compost container.? If you ever have questions about what goes where check out the Zero Waste Sonoma website - https://zerowastesonoma.gov/

Information for this workshop can be viewed on the City’s website soon under Agenda at the Planning Commission page.

Street Paver Repairs

Street Paver Repairs City of Healdsburg

The City of Healdsburg Public Works Department has local masons out repairing and adjusting pavers in the downtown area this week of February 9 and next week.? Tree roots and water intrusion often cause pavers to move.? When this occurs, the uneven pavers are removed, the base material to adjusted and recompacted, then the pavers are replaced to provide a level and safe surface.? The work will be limited to one location at a time to minimize impacts.
