Youth Soccer to Kick-Off This Weekend
After nearly two years away from the field, the Community Services Department and Healdsburg Youth Soccer Association are pleased to announce the return of youth soccer. There are nearly 450 players registered to play this year, ranging in ages from 4-15 years old. Thank you to our partners at Corazón Healdsburg for their generous support and outreach through the Golazo event to help get families registered for this year’s season. Teams have been practicing with their volunteer coaches since mid-August at the Community Center, Recreation Park, and High School fields with the first set of games scheduled to begin this Saturday. We look forward to a great season and seeing our young athletes active again this fall.

Residential Recycled Water Hauling Program
As we approach the fall months and cooler weather, the residential recycled water hauling program will come to an end. Depending on the amount of rain, the hauling program will end either November 5th or November 19th with no rain occurring during October and November. Due to the approaching program end date, inspections for new applicants will not be accepted, scheduled, or completed after September 17th. To date, water deliveries have been free of charge but funding for the program will be exhausted by the end of September. To continue the program through the months of October and November, the City Council will consider adoption of a fee to help fund at the regularly scheduled September 20th Council meeting.
Urban Water Management Plan Workshop
The City of Healdsburg Utilities Department will host an additional workshop on the Urban Water Management Plan on September 22, 2021. The workshop will be held via Zoom and begin at 6:00 p.m. The Zoom meeting information will be available early next week. A draft of the Urban Water Management Plan can be found here: https://healdsburg.gov/622/Urban-Water-Management-Plan
Badger Substation Reconstruction
New foundations to support replacement equipment are being constructed within the Badger substation. To prevent damage and extended power outages during earthquakes, each of these foundations has four supporting piers (micro-piles) extending 50 feet into the earth. Other work includes trenching and on-site assembly the replacement equipment.

Groundwater Supply and Aquifer Storage
Upon request of City staff, several proposals were received to determine the feasibility of groundwater supply wells, including permitting and design. The work will also investigate using the wells for aquifer storage and recovery (ASR). The construction of groundwater wells will diversify the City’s water supply portfolio, and ASR, if feasible, could lessen the impact of re-occurring droughts. The proposals are being reviewed by a team of City staff with the final consultant to be selected later this month.
2021 Tuesdays in the Plaza Concerts Wrap Up
The Tuesdays in the Plaza concert series concluded on August 31 with a performance from Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers cover band, Petty Theft. This capped-off a nine-week summer series that began on July 6. The Tuesday concerts would not have been possible without the generous support of Healdsburg Tourism Improvement, our series sponsors, and the individual supporters who made contributions to ensure the series continued through August. Special thanks to all of the performers, the production team, Sonoma County Bicycle Coalition, Healdsburg Police Department, and food vendors who helped make the series happen on short notice this summer. Finally, thank you to all of the community members who came out to celebrate the return of live music and coming together as a community in our Plaza. Community Services staff will begin planning for next year’s Tuesdays in the Plaza this winter and look forward kicking off a full series in late May 2022.
111 Saw Mill Circle
Construction of the 41-unit affordable housing development at the Mill District is well underway. The developer, Eden Housing, Inc. is building the first portion of a multi-phase transformation of the former Nu-Forest Products saw mill property into a mixed-use district at the gateway to Healdsburg. As part of the construction, the contractor, West Creek Builders will be pouring the foundation and first floor concrete slab for the Eden apartments at 111 Saw Mill Place (near the intersection of Healdsburg Avenue and Exchange Avenue, immediately behind McDonald’s). To achieve a proper foundation pour the contractor requires cooler temperatures and the ability to finish the floor in one day. The construction is scheduled this coming Monday, September 13th beginning at 2:00 a.m. Since this activity is outside the normal construction hours, the contractor obtained an exception for the early start time. Pedestrian and traffic safety will be closely monitored.
